High school drama department presents Dracula

Friday, October 18, 2013

The MHHS Encore Company will present "Nosferatu: The Legend of Dracula," Oct. 24-26 at 7 p.m. in the MHHS gym.

In this adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel, the unsuspecting Jonathan Harker (Jarold Petersen) goes to Transylvania to finalize the sale of the Carfax Abby estate in London.

There he encounters the vampire Count Dracula (Bryce Gowey). Back in London people can tell that something just isn't quite right. No one in his right mind would buy that desolate and foreboding place. Entire ship's crews go missing while out at sea, asylum patients act out defiantly and talk more madness than usual, and now there has been a strange attack on Lucy Westenra (Makenna Reese).

Concerned Doctor Seward (Mckenzie Thomason) calls in the brilliant Professor Van Helsing (Morgan Hunt), an expert in the occult, for assistance in figuring out what is really going on.

"This production will captivate you with its neo-Victorian steampunk charm and horror elements," a spokesperson for the theater group said.

"The stagecraft and costume design classes have incorporated a steampunk influence in all areas of design and created the perfect atmosphere for this production, leaving no small detail out."

Tickets, $3 students and $5 adults, will be sold at the door. This show is described as "definitely not child friendly."
