Dean Wilson

Maury Dean Wilson, 78, of Mountain Home, passed away from natural causes on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at a Boise hospital.

Services will be on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, with a viewing at 10 a.m. and funeral at 11 a.m., at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

Dean was born on Nov. 9, 1934, in Twin Falls, to Mable Wilson. He was raised in Twin Falls and graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1954.

Shortly after high school Dean served two years in the U.S. Army.

In 1957, Dean moved to Mountain Home, where he started working for Art Smith at Bay Mortuary and Lewis and Mary Wheeler at La Mode Cleaners.

A year later, on July 3, 1958, Dean married Deanna Vaden and they spent the next 55 years together. They welcomed three children -- Maury Dean Jr. in 1959, Marla Jo in 1960, and lastly, Crystal Lynn in 1963.

In 1963, Dean and Deanna purchased La Mode Cleaners and would become very involved in the community of Mountain Home.

Dean found great joy working in the community and was involved in numerous clubs and organizations such as the Lions Club where he was a charter member and earned the first Melvin Jones Award in the Mountain Home Chapter. Other associations include the Chamber of Commerce, charter member of the Elks Lodge, Golf Association and Optimist Football Association.

Dean was immensely proud to be member of the Mountain Home Volunteer Fire Department from 1967-1984, where he rose through the ranks to captain.

Dean was very involved in Mountain Home Air Force Base and was in several clubs, such as the Military Affairs Committee, and served as the Air Force Appreciation Day chairman for 25 years.

Dean was instrumental in getting the F-111 airplane in Carl Miller Park and always took great pride in "his airplane!"

Dean, Deanna and their children spent many wonderful weekends at C.J. Strike Reservoir with friends waterskiing and enjoying life.

In his later years Dean put up his water ski and picked up a fishing pole and fished many days at C.J. Strike.

Dean was full of life and always liked to be on the go, getting involved where ever he could. Dean was a man that saw no gray, things were black and white, therefore you always knew where you stood with Dean!

He was a man that believed in service before self and if you cut him he would bleed red, white and blue, a true patriot to the end.

Dean is survived by his wife, Deanna, daughters Marla (Ross) Shultz and Crystal/Pete (Mark) Moore, his grandchildren, Kyle (Chantal) Moore, Lauren Moore and Nicole Shultz, and great-granddaughter Rilee Moore.

He was preceded in death by his son, Maury, his mother, Mable Rathbun, and stepfather Art Rathbun.
