Joyce Marie Ahlschlager-Cockerham-BenHayon, passed away at her home in King Hill, on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013.

Graveside services will be held at1 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Joyce was born July 18, 1939, in San Diego, Calif., to Pauline Ross and Theodore R. Vandermark. She moved to King Hill in October of 1939, living with her grandparents, George and Grace Ross, until 1941, when she moved to Glenns Ferry when her mother married Howard (Red) Ahlschlager in 1941.

In 1958 Joyce married Clyde Cockerham.

During her life she had a wide range of careers including bookkeeping, banquet organizer, waitress, motel maid, cook and bartender. Most notably was her career for the Union Pacific Railroad, which she started in 1978. She was the first woman ever hired alone, where she cooked for the men aboard the train.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge for many years.

She enjoyed doing crafts, gardening, cooking, reading, fishing, camping and many other various outdoor activities.

In 1993, she married her best friend of many years, Thomas BenHayon.

Joyce is survived by five children, Paula Cockerham of Glenns Ferry, Tanya Morrison of Carson City, Nev., Mickey Cockerham of Gooding, Dennis Cockerham of Glenns Ferry and Jay BenHayon of Washington, D.C. She has two brothers, Robert Ahlschlager of Glenns Ferry and Benjamin Ahlschlager of Medford, Ore. She also has eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother and a son-in-law.
