Karel Lursky, 83, of Mountain Home, passed away on Oct. 4, 2013, quietly at home in Mountain Home, Idaho.

A rosary will be held Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m. at Rost Funeral Chapel, McMurtrey Chapel. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish Hall in Mountain Home on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 10 a.m.

Karel was born to Franceska Lurska and Bruno Buriansky on March 1, 1930, in Opava, Czechoslovakia. Karel immigrated to the United States in 2007 to be close to his only daughter, Jana Lytle, and her children.

Karel married Bozena Anna Jebautzka on Dec. 10, 1955, and attended school to study chemistry after a term of service with the Czech Army.

In 1968, he decided to bravely flee Czechoslovakia following the invasion of his homeland by the Soviet Union as he cherished his Christian faith and wanted freedom for his wife and daughter.

Karel settled in Amberg, Germany as a refugee under political asylum and quickly learned German and obtained training to become a skilled machinist for the Krones Company for 43 years.

Karel loved to camp and travel and vacationed at Costa Del Sol, the Italian Riveria, and to Prague following the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1990.

Upon moving to America, Karel spent every day learning English in order to better communicate with his grandchildren.

Karel supported his grandchildren faithfully through their college years and the marriage of his granddaughter, Caroline, following her graduation.

Karel loved American Western movies and appointed himself sole caregiver to the family horse, Saber.

He was a quiet and devout man of simple tastes who always looked after his beloved wife, Anna, and his daughter, Jana.

Karel is survived by his wife, Anna, his daughter, Jana Lytle, and his grandchildren, Andrew Lytle and Caroline Ehlies.

Donations to Karel's memory should be made to Our Lady of Good Counsel, P.O. Box 310, Mountain Home, ID 83647.
