A Mountain Home man was arrested last week on charges of allegedly raping a Treasure Valley woman earlier this month.

D'Angelo A. Sewell, 21, faces a single felony count in which authorities allege the victim was asleep and incapable of resisting.

Sewell is a senior airman assigned to the 726th Air Control Squadron at Mountain Home Air Force Base.

According to information in an initial investigation conducted by city police, the victim was invited by another man to attend a party at a home in Mountain Home the evening of Sept. 6. Later that night, the woman and the other man had sex.

Sewell is accused of entering the bedroom sometime later and began having sex with the woman, who was awoken around 3 a.m. Sept. 7. The investigation report indicated that he refused to speak during the encounter, and the victim was unable to identify him in the darkened room.

At that point, she left the bedroom and entered the bathroom where she turned on a light and was able to identify Sewell, authorities said.

He's due back in court the afternoon of Oct. 1 for a preliminary hearing. Evidence and sworn testimony presenting at the hearing will determine if sufficient evidence exists to bind Sewell over to district court to face the felony charge. If convicted, he faces a minimum of one year in prison with the maximum punishment of life in prison. He was released from custody after he posted $10,000 bond.
