Girls soccer squad struggles during two losses

The Mountain Home girls soccer team lost twice last week, losing to Bishop Kelly and Columbia.

Bishop Kelly 9

Mountain Home 0

Bishop Kelly broke open a close conference soccer game with four quick goals late in the second half to beat the Lady Tigers 9-0, Tuesday at Eastside Park in Mountain Home. The win was Bishop Kelly's 70th straight win.

Mountain Home had just four shots on goal in the game.

Missy Jessup had 15 saves as goalkeeper for the Lady Tigers.

"I think we kind of fell apart in conditioning once the score started getting up a little bit. It dragged the moral down," said Mountain Home girls head soccer coach Kent Ogaard after the game.

"To be honest with you, position-for-position, I think that if we execute a little better than we did, we could probably hang with BK this year. I don't think the score reflects the game that our team is capable of playing.

"I'm (also) very proud of our JV team, who handed BK their first loss and remains undefeated."

Columbia 2

Mountain Home 1

The Lady Tigers came up a goal short at Columbia, losing to the Lady Wildcats 2-1 last Wednesday in a game shortening by lightning.

"We had about 4:47 left when it got called on account of lightning," said Coach Ogaard. "We had some extreme pressure on their side -- you could say we were going to score -- it remains to be seen, but we certainly had a lot of opportunities to tie it up for sure, if not put a win on it, but we can't control the weather, unfortunately and the safety of the kids is more important than anything else."

Madison Roache scored Mountain Home's goal. Missy Jessup had five saves on goal as goalkeeper.

"Our back line held tough and didn't allow a lot of shots on goal, so I was pleased," said Coach Ogaard.

The Lady Tigers traveled to Skyview on Monday. Ogaard was hoping for a good showing there.

"Skyview's lost a few seniors and not looking as strong as they have in years past, but we're not overlooking them by any chance. We desperately need to win again.

"The girls are starting to come together. They look much better as far as their pace of play and where and how they play to it. I think they're feeding off the JV, who is still undefeated right now. The JV will have their test with Skyview, because Skyview's JV, too, is undefeated, so we'll see what happens."

Mountain Home is home against Emmett on Thursday.
