Elmer W. Ireland, 85, of Prairie, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at a Boise care center.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Elmer was born July 20, 1928, in Boise, the son of Pete and Mary Ireland.

Elmer completed 9½ years of schooling and then chose to further his education ranching and farming.

He served active duty with the Army for two years in the early '50s.

He married the love of his life, Barbara Proshold, on April 10, 1955. They spent 58 amazing years together.

They raised three wonderful sons.

Elmer enjoyed taking his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids at rodeos and fairs throughout Idaho and watching them compete.

His love for children was more than words can explain. He treated every kid he came in contact with like they were related or his own.

Farming and ranching was his way of life. He spent several years' custom haying and combining in Nevada and Idaho. When Elmer wasn't ranching or farming he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Elmer is survived by wife Barbara of Prairie, sons Steve Ireland of Prairie and Bob Ireland of Mountain Home, sister Doris Martin of Meridian, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many others who thought of him as a grandpa.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Mary Ireland, brother Roy Ireland, sister Wanda Cattron, son Walt Ireland, and grandson Buford Ireland.
