Rumble and Roar car show set for Aug. 4

Friday, July 26, 2013

A collection of classic cars, souped up stock racers and modified vehicles are expected to pack into Carl Miller Park next month as the Mountain Home Lions Club hosts its 12th Annual Rumble and Roar Car Show.

Billed as a "family friendly and fun event" by local organizers, the show will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4.

The annual event serves as one of the Lions Club's main fundraisers. Proceeds this year will benefit scholarship programs for each of the three high schools in Mountain Home. In past years, the show also helped raise tens of thousands of dollars to benefit eye-related medical research as well as community projects.

Members from American Legion Post 26 will start the day's festivities as they serve breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. Local vendors will also serve food and beverages until 3 p.m.

Each year, the show features a variety of vehicles, including stock restored classics and special interest cars as well as hot rods, rat rods, motorcycles. People often bring vehicles they are still working to rebuild.

In addition to showcasing their pride of their respective vehicles, each owner will qualify to compete for various honors. Judges will rate each vehicle based on factors like best paint and engine work to interior and exterior restoration. Meanwhile, visitors are invited to vote for their personal favorites for this year's "people's choice" award with all trophies awarded at 4 p.m.

New this year is a burn-out competition next to East Elementary School. Securing their vehicles to anchors on a concrete pad, vehicle owners will take turns spinning their wheels -- literally -- in hopes of generating the most crowd appreciation and tire smoke.

Up to four heats are planned during the day, with prizes awarded to the first, second and "pathetic" last place. The burn-out contest is limited to 20 vehicles, and the cost to enter is $25. To register, call Nate Baer at 587-3396.

Same-day registration for this year's show will run from 8 to 10 a.m., and the cost to enter a vehicle is $25. People may also register prior to the show by going online to www.e-clubhouse.org/sites/mountainhomeid.

Vendor space is available for $35 per vendor. For details, call Jody Soboslai at 587-1278.
