City issues water conservation advisory

Wednesday, June 26, 2013

A seasonal drop in local groundwater levels prompted city officials to issue a voluntary water conservation advisory on Friday.

The measure urges people to limit the number of days they water their lawns and gardens until water levels return to expected levels.

Last week's advisory comes as the city deals with related water concerns. On Sunday, one of the city's larger wells went off line due to maintenance issues.

Meanwhile, the city is supplying emergency water to residents in the Mellen Subdivision while they continue to bring their own well back into service.

As part of the voluntary conservation measures, those with even-numbered house addresses are urged to limit yard watering to Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Meanwhile, those whose house number ends with an odd number are asked to water their lawns on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. In addition, city residents are asked to avoid watering on Sundays.

Meanwhile, the city cut back on watering parks and other city properties to help conserve water.

"The city will monitor the effect of these restrictions and may have to adjust the requirements as the summer season progresses," officials said in a prepared statement.

  • I guess its inmpossible to penetrate the thick skulls of some folks in Elmore County...whether or not the County Commissioners wanted to pass the Mayfield Townsite project or not...they had to. They applicants followed the rules and regs of the oridinances and by LAW they had to pass it. Did you show up to the town meetings regarding the new ordianaces and make your feelings known? In all reality this project will never come to fruition...I just cant stand people spewing about things they really know nothing about....

  • Will not slow watering at the local schools I am sure. Nothing like watching sprinklers run when it is the warmest part of the day. What a waste of water and tax dollars. Pass another levy---all good.
