Man killed when struck by train

Thursday, May 16, 2013

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Union Pacific train near the 5th Street crossing near Taco John's Wednesday night.

The man has been identified as Christopher S. Luxford, 30, of Mountain Home.

Sgt. Rick Viola of the Mountain Home Police Department said the incident was reported by the crew aboard the eastbound train at approximately 10:08 p.m. Wednesday night. Police found the body about 700 feet west of the crossing.

The track was closed until about 11:50 p.m.

Anyone that may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Mountain Home Police Department at 587-2101 or the department's Silent Witness Link, http://www.mhpd.net/silentwitness.htm.

Police also are hoping to utilize the "black box" video information aboard the train to help determine exactly where the man was struck, possibly provide some indication of how he came to be in the path of the train, and what the speed of the train was at the time.

  • Im no expert but he more than likely committed suicide. Its pretty hard fora pedestrian, even a very intoxicated one, to just get hit by a train unless they want to.

  • Some real stupid comments. I just have a question.

If the train was eastbound, how did they find the body 700 feet west of the intersection?

  • Do u people have any morals?? A heart?? Any family

?? Someone u care about?? A son, father, uncle, brother, nephew, or a grandson??? This man was this person to someone. Let alone probably a friend to a great many people, many people loved this young man, he was still starting his life. This is a very sad thing that has happened & many of u r writing cruel things. Imagine this as your beloved family or friend...you would erupt inside after reading these things. Has anyone thought that it may have been an accident, quite possibly he may have tripped, twisted his ankle or maybe he got his foot stuck in the tracks maybe he fell and was knocked unconscious. There are a great number of variables and questions out there that I'm sure everyone has a thought of their own about what caused this tragic accident. But as a community we shouldn't be so cold and hurtful to this family and all his and the families friends. I do not know this young man but ABSOLUTELY NO ONE deserves to read or hear such hurtful things in this time of need. I am so very sorry to your family and friends, I will keep you in my prayers and hope that you may get through your time of need gracefully and with all the help that you may need. My heart goes out to all the family and friends of this young man.

Death is a part of life, and this life is hard because humans have made it that way. I never ask why, because all you have to do is watch the news.

  • wow i cant believe how stupid and heartless people can be. That was my son you were talking about. First of all Chris was a wonderful person and son and anybody that knew him would tell you what I'm going to tell you , This was a accident, it was'nt done on purpose Chris would have never done that He had a family that loved him very much and he loved us , never mind the close friends in his life. So many cared about him and he felt the same way about his friends. i can only suppose that if you said something stupid that you yourself have never had or felt the kind of love that we all had and still have for Chris, and thats the reason for you stupidity and ignorance, not to mention being heartless. If you dont know the facts or if your just plain stupid you have no business saying anything, let alone commenting on this story, Its sad as kind and wonderful and really smart Chris was he's gone and all the rest of us are still here having to put up with dumb people who get even more stupid by the day!!!!! thankyou to everyone else who had kind words to say, and took the time to tell those stupid people to shut up, that means alot to me and everyone who loved Chris
