UPDATE: Missing Mountain Home man found dead

Friday, April 26, 2013

A Mountain Home man reported missing nine days ago was found dead at a campground in Owyhee County on Wednesday.

The body of Russell Holsinger, 67, was discovered in his truck, which was submerged in a lake at the Cottonwood Camp Ground on the Snake River.

His truck was discovered by fishermen preparing to launch their boat at the campground boat ramp, said Chief Deputy Mike Barclay from the Elmore County Sheriff's Office. There is no evidence suggesting that foul play was involved in Holsinger's death, the deputy said.

However it is important to the investigators to determine how he ended up in the water, Barclay said.

An autopsy was scheduled for today, April 25, at the Ada County Coroner's Office. Investigators are waiting for toxicology reports to return, which could take up to eight weeks.

Elmore County detectives are working with deputies from Owyhee County and the Owyhee County Coroner's Office into the cause of death.

Holsinger was last seen by his neighbor on April 12 with another person seeing him in Mountain Home on April 16. Investigators are hoping to talk to anyone that saw or talked to him after April 16, especially those who were near the C.J. Strike Dam recreation area and the Cottonwood Camp Ground prior to his death.

Detectives know that Holsinger had contact with some campers, and they believe other people may have had contact with him, Barclay said. Those contacts may help investigators establish his locations and help determine if there was a medical issue present.

According to the sheriff's department, Holsinger was a diabetic patient, and it was not known if he had taken medicine with him prior to his disappearance.

The truck recovered from the river, which was later confirmed as the one owned by Holsinger, is a 1991 Dodge R1500 single cab truck with a blue body with silver in the middle and blue rocker panels. The truck has the Idaho license plate number E 98703.

The incident remains under investigation, and those with any information relevant to the case are asked to call the Elmore County Sheriff Office at 587-2100 or the Owyhee County Sheriff's Office at 208-495-1154.
