Only a few taxing districts will actually hold May elections

Friday, April 12, 2013

The vast majority of small local taxing districts had only one candidate file for each open position, on either the regular ballot or as a write-in, which means those candidates will be declared elected and no election will be held for those positions.

Three districts did have challenges, however, for the May 21 election, including two races in the Glenns Ferry School District. The contested elections that will be held in May are:

* Atlanta Highway District -- Commissioner District 2 is a race between Russell G. Beavers, Allen R. Lake and Merlin L. Lords.

* Glenns Ferry Joint School District No. 192 -- Trustee Zone 1 will see Rusty Trail face off against write-in candidate Rich Wootan.

* Glenns Ferry Joint School District No. 192 -- Trustee Zone 5 has Joseph H. McFarland and John G. Taylor running against each other.

* Mellen Subdivision Water District -- The race for two at-large trustees positions has Norma J. Meyers, running against write-ins Bart Eben and Sarah Miller.

Candidates were declared elected in each of the following local taxing districts.

* Glenns Ferry Highway District -- Dewey Crane is the new four-year commissioner for District 2 and Mark Noble is the new commissioner for the four-year post representing District 3.

Calvin Ireland will be the new commissioner from District 1 and. Martin Beach the new commissioner from District 3. Both posts are for four-year terms.

* The Prairie Library District -- The district had four candidates file for five available positions to fill two at-large trustee positions for two-year terms, one at-large trustee position for a four-year term, and two at-large trustee positions for six-year terms. Elected were Nathan C. Cook, Mary June Cook, Kathryn M. Mashburn and Cindi McNamee. After the elected board is sworn into office, they will determine who gets what terms and the will need to fill the vacancy by appointing someone to the vacant position.

* Elmore Medical Center Hospital District -- Four at-large six-year-term trustee positions were available. Declared elected are: Robert F. Bennett, Melanie Bethel, Verlin Gingerich, Cindy Terriberry (Kencke).

* The Bliss Joint School District #234-- A tiny fraction of this district is in Elmore County. Joshua Braya will serve the four-year term for trustee of Zone 2.

* The Bruneau/Grand View Joint School District #365 -- Lori Bennett will serve a four-year term as the new trustee for Zone 3.

* Mountain Home School District #193 -- Long-time incumbent Luise House will return as the trustee representing Zone 2, and newcomer Connie Yrazabal Donahue will serve as trustee for Zone 4.

* The Prairie Elementary School District-- Randy Davison has been declared elected to the four-term term as the trustee from Zone 2.

* The Westside Sewer District -- Pat Crook will fill one of the two six-year terms for at-large director positions that were open, while the other, in which no one ran, will be selected by the rest of the board.
