Time to get rid of WECRD

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

Dear editor:

It seemed like a good idea at the time. The city was reluctant to cough up the bucks for an indoor swimming facility, so the citizens voted for a local taxing district to fund it.

But after ten years, there isn't even a hole in the ground to make fun of.

\Don't stop reading yet, more outrage is coming. Now the people at the Western Elmore County Recreational District tell us it will take twelve more years to build a swimming pool. That's 22 years to get nothing done. Twenty two years of money for nothing.

Just think, Mountain Home fifth graders, born the year the levy passed, will finish high school and college and still never swim a lap in the indoor pool.

It's time for the citizens to dissolve the WECRD and erase this bloated, non-performing bureaucratic blunder from history.

Return the money to the property tax payers, especially the retired ones, who will never even get their feet wet in the inside aquatic arena. Then, let's get on our knees and pray we don't get fooled again.
