City streets reopened following suspicious package discovery

A two-block cordon around Carl Miller Park was established as a precaution.

Two-block sections of American Legion Boulevard and North 10th East Street were reopened late Wednesday morning following a response to a suspicious package in Carl Miller Park.

Authorities closed the roads after they received a report at approximately 8:30 a.m. regarding the suspicious item discovered in the city park.

The package was described as looking like a military-style ammunition box.

The suspicious package was described as a military style ammunition container, which was discovered near the intersection of American Legion Boulevard and North 10th East Street in Carl Miller Park.

Members of the bomb squad from Mountain Home Air Force Base used specialized equipment to deal with the package. It wasn't immediately known what was inside the box or how it ended up in the park.

American Legion Boulevard and North 10th East Street remain blocked off for nearly two hours with traffic diverted around the closure as emergency responders dealt with the situation.

In the words of a popular credit card advertisement...Priceless. Oh wait, actually there was a price, the cost of the PD, FD, and Bomb Team comes out of Mountain Home's funds.
