Marthena Mitchell, 88, of King Hill passed away August 30, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at the King Hill Community Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mtn Home.

Marthena was born March 8, 1924 to Robert and Amy Eskew in Knox City, Missouri. Marthena was born fourth into a family of six, very close-hearted girls. They all loved their sisters and remained very close throughout their lives. Only one sister remains now and she will truly miss all her childhood companions.

Marthena met and married the love of her life in Fruitland. Marthena was only sixteen when Walter proposed to her, and when her mother objected saying she was much too young, Walter stated he could "take just as good of care of her" as her mother. He did take care of her, and they had a wonderful journey together.

Walter and Marthena had many travel adventures early in their married life, eventually settling in the King Hill-Glenns Ferry area.

Mom was an avid reader, sometimes reading a book in a single day. She enjoyed her yard and flowers so much, and her favorite times were when she could convince her daughters and granddaughters to spend the day working in the yard with her. She was always thinking about what would be the next plant addition, much to the dismay of her son in law who would usually be the one to end up doing all of the digging and planting. Crocheting and knitting were always close at hand, and every new baby in the family would have an afghan waiting for them. But most importantly, mom loved her Boise Broncos. She watched every game to cheer on her team. If you needed to know any Bronco stats all you had to do was ask her. She kept close tabs on the team.

Marthena is survived by her children Earl (Myrna) Mitchell of Spokane, Wa; Carolyn (Ron) Hall of Homedale; Margie Harris of Alpine, Wy; Mary (Ron) Belliston of Twin Falls, Amy (Les) Taylor of King Hill, and daughter-in-law Delores Mitchell of Monroe, OR; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She so enjoyed all of them and especially in her later years was overjoyed with the great-grandchildren. All of them were special to her. Marthena was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Amy Eskew, her husband Walter, son David and four sisters.

The family requests memorials in Marthena's name be sent to the King Hill Community Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 337, King Hill, ID 83633.
