Girls soccer squad fumbles in three conference losses

Friday, August 31, 2012

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers had a rough week in conference girls soccer, losing games to Caldwell, Skyview and Bishop Kelly.

Caldwell 6, Mountain Home 0

Mountain Home traveled to Caldwell Monday for a conference game with the Lady Cougars and lost 6-0.

Mountain Home was unable to get any balls in the net on the day. Venessa Estrella had 33 saves on goal for Mountain Home.

Skyview 6, Mountain Home 2

The Lady Tigers quieted the Skyview crowd early in the game with two first-half goals, but were unable to get any more, and Skyview came back to win 6-2 last Wednesday at Skyview.

Missy Jessup and Christa Lewis each scored for Mountain Home. Venessa Estrella once again had a great effort defending the goal, stopping 28 attempts.

"It was pretty phenomenal, to be honest," said Mountain Home girls soccer Coach Stephen Speak. "We only had 12 fit players, so I had 11 on the field and one substitute, against a team that did pretty well at district and almost made state last year.

"It was a big task for the girls, but they showed up there and quieted the crowd, as we were up 2-0 at halftime. We just played their socks off, just got worn down at the end, really, because most of the girls played the full 80 minutes, but it was a moral victory really. We played fantastic and everybody really had the Tiger spirit and played really well."

Bishop Kelly 10, Mountain Home 1

Mountain Home faced the defending 4A state champions Saturday at Eastside Park in Mountain Home and came away on the short end of a 10-1 loss to Bishop Kelly.

Missy Jessup scored Mountain Home's lone goal on a penalty kick. Venessa Estrella had nine saves on goal for Mountain Home. The loss dropped the Lady Tigers to 0-4 on the season. They play at Kuna today, Aug. 29, before they head to Middleton on Tuesday.

  • Once again the Varsity and JV girls soccer teams are pitiful...not because of the efforts of the players, but of the lack of effort by the coaching staff...giving up 22 goals in three games and only scoring 3 is dismal...also, why are their only 12 players at a game when the varsity squad normally suit's up 18-20 players??

Maybe it's because they don't want to play for a coach who measures success by losing only 6-0 versus losing 10-1...there has to be better or qualified personnel to coach...since Coach Speak

has been coaching the Varsity record is 1-20-1

    That's shameful

  • The girls JV squad is even worse...they have only scored in one of their games...I think after this season, the Sports Director John Clark might want to re-evaluate both coaches and begin looking else where, unless of course your satisfied with losing...losing is just contagious as winning...but these teams are just losing, they are getting embarrsed...shame on the coaches and John Clark for allowing this to happen!!!
