Local COP units help serve as community's extra eyes

Friday, August 10, 2012
Fred and Rustyn Casiano are among the volunteers with the local Citizens on Patrol unit who aid law enforcement by serving as extra sets of eyes and ears in the local community.

It looked like it was going to be a routine shift for Fred and Rustyn Casiano. There wasn't a lot of chatter on the radio and the summertime heat was encouraging many people to stay indoors.

Making the turn off American Legion Boulevard, they glanced through the window and doorway of a local bank, which was hours away from opening. Their job was to spot anything out of the ordinary -- a person's shadow, the glint of a flashlight or signs that someone had tried to open a door.

Like most cases, everything was in order, and the husband and wife team continued on to the next stop on the day's patrol.

For the past three years, Fred and Rustyn have followed the same routine as part of their duty to help keep the Mountain Home community safe.
