Support urged to give MHAFB extra water rights

Gary Spackman, the director of the Idaho Department of Water Resources, has taken the unusual step of going public to encourage a water project proposal -- in this case one that would impact Mountain Home Air Force Base in a positive manner.

Spackman stressed there is no current threat to the base's water supply, either concerning its quantity or its quality. But what he wants is for the Department of Defense to take advantage of a "very generous, patriotic gesture" from the Simplot Company that is offering a set of water rights to the base that would secure its long-term future.
