4-H clubs meet in Bruneau during Buckaroo Jamboree
The 25th annual Buckaroo Jamboree was held on July 21 in Bruneau.
The event was jointly sponsored by two local 4-H horse clubs, the South Mountain Cowboys, led by Nealann Davis and Sheila Quintero, and the Bruneau Sage Riders,led by Sandy Black. There were 18 contestants participating in the day-long event, which included five classes, a potluck dinner and opportunities to ask questions of the show judge, Shannon Allison.
Commemorative rosettes were awarded to mark the celebration of the event. The Buckaroo Jamboree was invented in 1987 as a "beginner's" jamboree, and has consistently divided contestants by experience, as well as by age. It has been held in various locations over the years, including Grand View, Bruneau, Homedale and Jordan Valley.
South Mountain Cowboys assistant leader Ann Rutan set the pace for the event, giving contestants helpful tips during each class and leading games at the end with "Ride a Buck," a "Water Relay" race, and an open bareback class for parents and leaders.
Mike Quintero announced the show, assisted by Zeke Quintero. Both 4-H clubs expressed their appreciation to the Bruneau Rodeo Board for the use of the arena and to the many parents who pitched in to make the day a success for the kids.
