Private landowners form district to battle range fires

A group of private landowners in Elmore County have officially formed Idaho's first rangeland fire protection association (RFPA), setting up a response system to prevent and suppress fires on their lands.

The Mountain Home Rangeland Fire Protection Association was established Monday in a signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL). An MOU also is being developed with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to recognize the Mountain Home RFPA as a full cooperator.
