Local swim team to host dual meet

The Mountain Home Tiger Sharks swim team will host the West YMCA Blue Marlins during a dual meet starting Saturday morning at the city pool in Richard Aguirre Park.

Saturday will mark the second home swim meet this summer featuring the Mountain Home Tiger Sharks Swim Team, who will host the West YMCA Blue Marlins during an event that starts at 9 a.m. at the Mountain Home city pool.

Admission is free and concessions will be available.

The dual meet against the Blue Marlins is the Tiger Sharks' fifth meet this summer season, according to club officials.

Mountain Home Parks and Recreation added a swim team to the many summer activities available for local youth in the summer of 2011, giving the young swimmers who take lessons every summer something to aim for, officials added.

The team more than doubled in size this summer.

Tiger Shark team members range from 6 to 18 years of age, with try-outs held each spring.

The team is part of the Four Rivers Swim League with teams located in the Treasure Valley and beyond, including Emmett, Ontario and Hidden Springs.

The Sharks train early in the morning at the city pool, some using the sport as a way of staying in shape during the summer months for upcoming fall sports. In addition, they learn the benefits of a life-time sport and making new friends, officials said.
