UPDATE: Evacuation order expands

Monday, July 9, 2012
Flames from the range fire continued moving west toward milepost 99 each of Mountain Home on Monday.

A fast-moving range fire east of Mountain Home prompted law enforcement officials to expand its evacuation order to homes and other restaurants and businesses north of town on Monday evening.

Among the areas affected by the evacuation order include the Pilot service station and the Hampton Inn as the flames reached Exit 95 around 7:35 p.m.

In addition, the interstate east of town remains closed to all traffic. The closure starts around Exit 90 west of town and extends to the east past Exit 99 with law enforcement crews diverting traffic off the highway.

According to initial reports, lightning triggered the blaze near Southeast Ross Road around 4:30 p.m. with wind pushing the flames westward.

Additional details will be released as they become available.

  • First post here, had to register.

I've got my scanner on, and it's pretty hectic to say the least. Last I've heard, there is no confirmation on structures or buildings burned around exit 95. (Pilot truck stop) That area, is closed off right now however.

This fire is still moving fairly rapidly. My advice is if you live somewhere within a radius 2 miles +/- from it, and you've got dry grass areas around your home or property... it would be a good idea to turn a hose on just in case.

Stay vigilant folks, and many thanks to all that are working on and fighting this one..

    All the best.

    T-

  • Fire did not seem to get any of the businesses on the other side of the freeway, traffic is back to normal, and WalMart is open. It even looked like Pilot was open. Fire is still burning. Things are starting to go back to normal it appears.

  • Latest update I have -

I84 is probably about 5 to 10 minutes away from being re-opened. Not sure which direction the fire is headed, now though and no word on containment. Fire crews are still working it.

  • @Myhomegirl

    YVW.

Funny,I've got family on that same street.

    For what it's worth.

While I don't know most of the guys and gals on the local SD, PD, and FD on a first name basis... I do know that they are more than able to handle this.

I84 is open now, and from what I can tell from my ears... it's pretty much under control. Last I heard, the fire is moving more towards Highway 20 to the north of town now.

Last update for me tonite, it's time to get some sleep.

  • Thanks to BLM, FDs and the sheriffs dept. To all the morons that feel they needed to drive up there and take pictures while we were trying to evacuate the area: Really? Are you people that stupid? STAY HOME and OUT OF THE WAY for crying out loud!!!
