Mountain Home celebrates Independence Day

Thursday, July 5, 2012
A multitude of colors blazed over the Desert Canyon Golf Course during Wednesday's fireworks show. The $30,000 show was one of the largest in southern Idaho.

One of the largest fireworks shows in southern Idaho culminated a day-long celebration as Mountain Home observed Independence Day on Wednesday.

The $30,000 firework show came just days after the city council approved plans to expanded the viewing area for this year's fireworks show at the Desert Canyon Golf course.

Seating this year extended to the seventh fairway near the canal that separates the front and back nine holes.

Low-flying fireworks heralded that start of this year's show at the city golf course.

Low-flying fireworks triggered several spot fires near the launch site of Wednesday's show with fire crews quickly extinguishing the flames with no damage reported, according to interim fire chief Alan Bermensolo.

During the Independence Day holiday, the city received no emergency calls related to fires triggered by fireworks -- the first time in recent years the city hadn't dealt with this issue, Bermensolo said.

Additional coverage of the city's Fourth of July events will appear in the July 11 edition of the Mountain Home News.

  • The firework show was nice but would have been better if they were set off from the location from previous years. The fireworks that were shot low were too low. In the past you could see the entire display from legacy park. It wasn't pleasant to only see a glow of fire and having to wait in between to see the bigger and better fireworks. Move the show back to where it was and shoot ALL of the fireworks higher. Thank you MHFD; come back Chief Gridley!

  • Actually the fireworks have been shoot off from the gulf course since the Junior High was built and they could no longer do it from East side park. They set them off from the same launching area they have since they started at the gulf course for at least 10 to 12 years. They opened up more of the gulf course for people to be able to see and I thought they did an amazing job and one of my favorite shows. In a city of trees the best thing to do is go to where the fireworks are... they do not come to you. Legacy park is a mile away so of course you cant see the entire show. They have been preping since February if not sooner and it showed. Thank you mhfd and the pyrotechs and glad everyone is safe. Amazing show. Also, thank you Chief Bermansolo for all you do... you are doing a great job.

  • Love our beautiful trees in Mtn. Home! With shooting all the fireworks up higher it's amazing how one was able to see the entire show from a distance also; especially for senior citizens who look forward to the fireworks coming to them. The plus with shooting them higher is not worrying about putting out small fires on the golf course. Thank you MHFD for keeping us all safe and putting on an excellent show.

  • The foreworks were shoot off the same they have done every year. The ground show was the same as they have before and they also added more fireworks. Fires have also been started at every ahow and they are always prepared with fire trucks stationed at every part of the gulf course. They also set iff the test fireworks at the beginning of the show so they know which way the sparks may go to make sure they watch thise areas extra well. They fires are out almost as fast as they start because of our amazing fireman and the way they prepare for the show. The launchers are the same launchers they use every year as well. They do different choreography every year and they did amazing.

  • We come to Mtn. Home for the 4th every year from Boise. This is the best fireworks show in the state! The best time I have is having it on the GOLF course, the temperature drops when you get on the green and to just relax on the fairways, laying on the grass is perfect. Thank you MHFD! and Mountain Home for the best show in the state. Don't change a thing, except maybe a longer firework show, if that can be done, if not still will continue to come year after year if you keep it at the GOLF course. Thank you again!

    From Boise
