AF releases final version of joint strike fighter EIS

The F-35 is scheduled to replace the Air Force's inventory of aging F-15C and F-16 fighters.

One month after the local community commented on potential plans to station a new fighter mission at Mountain Home Air Force Base, military officials expect to release a final report this week outlining its impact on this part of the state.

The final version of the environmental impact statement gauges the potential basing of an operational F-35 fighter unit here or at four other stateside installations.
