Monday, June 11, 2012

The National Transportation Safety Board is continuing its investigation into the cause of an aircraft crash that killed a Caldwell man Saturday evening.

Gary M. Stoller, 65, died as a result of injuries after his 1969 Piper Cherokee crashed approximately a half mile southeast of the House Mountain lookout.

According to Sheriff Rick Layher, Stoller was flying back to Caldwell when the single-engine aircraft crashed. No one else was onboard the aircraft, and there were no indications of aircraft problems prior to the accident.

A response team including deputies from the Elmore County Sheriff's Office as well as members of the Prairie quick response unit, Elmore County search and rescue team and Air Saint Luke's responded to the crash. Rescuers used off-road all-terrain vehicles to reach the site around 4 a.m. Sunday.
