Retired with honors

In a solemn ceremony, Scouts from Troops 57 and 98 inspect a flag under the watchful eyes of Troy Wilkins from American Legion Post 26 during a flag retirement ceremony Saturday afternoon.

Representatives from the Legion post hosted the annual ceremony on Armed Forces Day to properly dispose of more than 700 worn and unserviceable flags at Carl Miller Park.

This year marked the first time that local Scouts were incorporated into the ceremony. According to Legion spokesman Rich McMahon, "It's important for them to understand the significance this ceremony represents."
