Recreation district names its annual grant recipients

Thursday, March 29, 2012

In a meeting April 27, the Western Elmore County Recreation District selected eight local youth sports groups to receive thousands of dollars in grants through a program aimed at helping these types of non-profit groups.

Marking its third anniversary, the district's Let's Play grant program offered $15,000 in total funding.

Originally, these organizations requested a total of more than $40,000 in their individual requests.

  • I'm sure you mean March 27 not April. So they handed out 15 grand of our tax money and I bet their mighty pleased with themselves. Where is the other 400,000 dollars going to go, rent for an office they don't need, computer/web page support they dont update or need or pay for another study that shows we won't support a Rec center. I voted for it originally but my kids have since graduated from college and moved away and I never thought it would be someones retirement plan. All these extra taxes have to be monitored for abuse/waste. Next up School levy and mesquito/bug abatement.

  • But they are saving for a building! Mark Hiddleston has it all figured out. We are about to pay $20,000.00 to Shaw Snow for yet another study (they did the first study) to determine that the "donors" just are not here to donate to this project each and every year. This group also has not taken into account that the YMCA fee to run this place will be at least 20% of the operating budget---above and beyond what is currently in any of the projected budgets to date. This project is doomed. IF they do manage to finally build this it will be a black hole of money for this community. The membership numbers projected are a VERY small portion of this community---this will be a facility for few that ALL will pay for. And then lets talk about all of the tax payer (you and I) subsidized memberships for the people who cannot afford to pay to use it. These are just a few of the problems that nobody wants to talk about. It is all a sham.
