Rec center finance study to start in April

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

After a nearly one-year delay, efforts to bring a community recreation center to Mountain Home regained traction with the next stage in the process now set to start by mid-April.

A meeting last Thursday involving officials from the Western Elmore County Recreation District, the Treasure Valley YMCA and independent community representatives alleviated financial concerns that had threatened to derail the entire project.

"We are on the right path with some new energy. Now it's worth pursuing," said Mark Hiddleston, who has led an independent process regarding the community recreation center initiative.

  • LOL---what a joke. This is like the PTL scandal many years ago. Follow the money.

  • I would suggest giving the collected Tax money to the schools...

  • There are a lot of people in this county who wanted a Recreation Center for this area, including me. The voters elected the Directors, the people who were supposedly going to make this happen, several times. The fact that it has taken this long is beyond disappointing. As Mark Hiddleston stated, this is probably the last shot to ever make this work. I think the voters deserve, after waiting this long a time, for this initiative to reach a conclusion once and for all - either it can be done or it can't.

  • Amazedn2008, giving the tax money that was collected to the schools would be illegal. The money that was collected from tax payers for all these years was to be used for recreation purposes only.

  • Mr. Hiddleston is not the "answer" to the problem/situation---he is part of the problem. There is currently a vacant WECRD Board position available. A better board would fix the problem and provide recreation.

Enough is enough. I have not been here for this whole joke but after 10 years, it is time for action. Time for the WECRD to put up or close up. The Mt Home Rec Department has and does continue to provide RECREATION for the entire community.

I do find it ironic that there has been no effort made to fill the vacant spot on the board. What say you WECRD board members or Mr. Hiddleston?

  • Well...they had a special meeting today (Weds) and their next Board Meeting for next week has been called off. And, they do not return calls with respect to that vacant position. Just the facts.
