Lady Tigers open season with two wins

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers opened their softball season last week with wins over Nampa and Caldwell in conference action.

Mountain Home 14, Nampa 4

(Six innings)

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers opened the season with a 14-4 win over Nampa at Memmelaar Field in Mountain Home last Tuesday in a game that ended in the sixth inning by the 10-run rule.

The Lady Tigers scored in every inning, getting six in the second and four in the fifth.

Kelly Elliott's pinch-hit triple with no one out in the bottom of the sixth knocked in Brittney Karst to end the game, 14-4.

Mountain Home Lady Tiger softball coach Chris Asbury was pleased with the first effort of the season.

"It's very nice to get started off that way," he said. "We had a couple opportunities to break it open and came up with some clutch hits and Kelly (Elliott) stepped up in her first varsity at-bat, I'm so proud of her."

The Lady Tigers pounded out 13 hits against two Nampa pitchers.

Brittney Karst had three hits, including two doubles, an RBI and scored three runs. Madison Siefferman, Heather Adams and Madi Karst each had two hits, Siefferman had a double, drove in four runs and scored three. Adams and Karst both had an RBI. Maeghan Pomerantz and Kelly Elliott both had triples with Elliott adding an RBI. Morgan Vivier also had a hit and Krissy Elliott had an RBI. Heather Elliott went the distance for the win, scattering five hits and giving up just one earned run.

Mountain Home 12, Caldwell 5

The Lady Tigers pounded out 14 hits Thursday in a 12-5 conference win over Caldwell at Caldwell.

Mountain Home took a 2-0 lead after one inning, led 5-2 after two, 7-4 after three and 11-4 after four as they went on to win 12-5.

In radio comments after the game, Coach Asbury said he was pleased with the Caldwell win.

"I just got done telling the girls it was a complete team effort -- all 13 of them contributed in some way today, and I was just really proud of that."

Heather Adams, who went the distance for the win, struck out five, had four hits at the plate and drove in one run.

Madi Karst and Kelly Elliott both had two hits. Karst had two RBI.

Kelly Elliott knocked in three runs with a double and triple. Madison Siefferman, Krissy Elliott, Courtney Christiansen, Maegan Pomerantz, Brittney Karst and Kira Baker also had hits. Siefferman's hit was a solo home run. Krissy Elliott had a double and two RBI and Christiansen had an RBI-triple.

The Lady Tigers had their Friday home game against Columbia washed out by rain. It will be rescheduled for a later date.

Mountain Home was scheduled to play at Skyview on Tuesday and are home against Bishop Kelly today, March 21, at 5 p.m. They go to Jerome on Friday for single games against Preston and Jerome, playing Preston at 4 p.m. and Jerome at 6 p.m.
