Alcohol a possible factor in fatal crash

Alcohol was a possible factor in a fatal car crash Saturday morning on the interstate.

Antonio Vaquera, 28, of Declo, Idaho, was traveling eastbound in a 2003 Chevrolet Impala when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve near milepost 106 east of Mountain Home around 3:25 a.m.

The car left the right shoulder and continued for more than 500 feet before it rolled over numerous times, according to a press statement from Deputy Michael K. Gelalia with the Elmore County Sheriff's Department.

Neither Vaquera nor his passenger Diana Guerrero, 28, of Burley were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, and both were ejected from the car.

Vaquera suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Guerrero sustained serious injuries and was flown by air ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise for treatment and was listed in good condition.

A preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash, Gelalia said. However, the results of blood-alcohol testing from the driver were not immediately available.
