Romney wins county caucus

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

Following three rounds of voting Tuesday evening, presidential candidate Mitt Romney earned a majority of votes during the county's Republican caucus.

With a higher-than-expected turnout at the polls, voters cast 281 votes for Romney with Ron Paul finishing second with 158, said Barry Peterson, central committee chairman with the Elmore County Republicans.

Idaho was one of 10 states participating in the Super Tuesday election process. In addition to being the first time the state held closed primaries, it was also the earliest that the state held its Republican caucus.
