Wrestling squad picks up wins

The Mountain Home Tigers came away with wins in two of three home matches last week.

Wildcats 48, Tigers 33

The Tigers battled the defending 4A champion Columbia Wildcats tough, but came up short, 48-33, in a conference dual match in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home on Dec. 20.

Picking up wins by pins were Jon Ryan in the 195-pound weight class, Solomon Chung-Hee at 220 and Mike Gordon at 285. Gordon's pin was in overtime.

Austin Clark won by major decision (16-7) at 160 pounds, and Aerial Groene (106) and Ryan Goldsby (152) won minor decisions.

Both Mountain Home and Columbia forfeited in the 98-pound weight class.

Justin Lisonbee (120) lost a 6-4 minor decision, Tanner Sessions (132) lost a 15-4 major decision, Jaime Ibarra (113) lost by technical fall (15-0), Levi Abrahamson (138) and Josh Deal (170) both lost by pin. Meanwhile, the Tigers forfeited in the 126, 145 and 182 weight classes.

Tigers 68, Bruins 8

The Tigers hosted Twin Falls last Thursday night as part of a tri-match, and defeated the Bruins 68-8.

Winning by pins were Aerial Groene in the 106-pound weight class, Justin Lisonbee (120) Levi Abrahamson (138), Charlie Shoemaker (145), Austin Clark (160), Jon Ryan (195) and Solomon Chung-Hee (220).

Winning by forfeit were Jaime Ibarra (113), Tanner Sessions (132) and Mike Gordon (285). Both teams forfeited at 126 pounds and Mountain Home forfeited at 98 pounds.

Winning by decisions were Jeff Checketts (182) and Ryan Goldsby (152). Josh Deal lost by decision at 170.

Tigers 65, Wolves 18

The Tigers closed out the tri-match last Thursday with a 65-18 win over Timberline of Boise.

Winning by pins for Mountain Home were Levi Abrahamson in the 138-pound weight class, Ryan Goldsby at 152, Austin Clark at 160 and Jeff Checketts at 182.

Winning by forfeit were Aerial Groene (106), Jaime Ibarra (113), Justin Lisonbee (120), Jon Ryan (195), Solomon Chung-Hee (220) and Mike Gordon (285). Both teams forfeited at 98 pounds and Mountain Home forfeited at 126 pounds.

Tanner Session won by technical fall at 132 pounds.

Meanwhile, Charlie Shoemaker lost by injury default at 145 pounds while Josh Deal lost by pin at 170.

The sweep improved the Tigers to 9-6 on the season in dual competition. Mountain Home returns to action Jan. 4 at Skyview High School for a conference dual and remain on the road to attend the Buhl Tournament from Jan. 6-7.
