Company receives failing mark after emergency test

Conelrad, short for Control of Electromagnetic Radiation, was developed in 1953 to provide an alert to the public that Russian nuclear bombers were on their way to attack the United States.

Windjammer Cable in Mountain Home failed to trigger last week's Emergency Alert System national test.

Across the country, the first-ever nation-wide test of the system saw hundreds of broadcast and cable providers fail to pick up on the alert.

"That's why they were running the test," said local cable manager Pam Burgess. "They needed to find out what worked and what didn't. Here, it didn't."
