DUI EXPERIENCE

I want to share my DUI experience, hoping that my words are heard and retained. A couple of months ago we had a Wingman day briefing about DUIs; and a few days after that, the base experienced a DUI....mine.

On September 29th I went out to a bar in Boise and drank; more than I was expecting to drink. After 6 hours of drinking, I didn't have a plan and I made a really bad decision; I decided to drive my vehicle. 10 minutes later, I was arrested and charged with Driving Under Influence of alcohol. I am thankful that I didn't get involved in an accident, because I could have killed someone or got myself killed.

After something like this hits you, the realization sets in of what a bad decision it was. What it can cost you; your career or a life, this event is life changing. As grown men and women, we have to be responsible for our actions and learn from those mistakes. That's why you are reading this, so my peers hopefully won't make the same mistake that I did. DON'T BE ME!! I know there are people out there that have the mentality of "that won't happen to me" but believe me it happens! Don't make the wrong decision, have a plan and stick to it.

The Air Force gives us a great program, Airmen Against Drunk Driving. Their mission is to eliminate drunk driving by providing military members courtesy transportation, without cost or questions asked. Have a Wingman, have a plan and a backup plan, use AADD if need be. Don't make that same stupid mistake I did; don't drink and drive.
