Registration continues for start of school next week

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Registration for the fall semester of the Mountain Home School District is continuing this week, with school scheduled to start Aug. 17.

Registration will be held at the schools. Elementary schools began registration Friday. Anyone who missed registering their child in grades K-4 can still do so by stopping by the schools during regular hours -- 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

New students began registering at Mountain Home High School, Mountain Home Junior High and Hacker Middle School yesterday.

Today, returning students in the 9th and 12th grade at Mountain Home High School will register while returning high school students in grades 10 and 11 register Thursday.

In addition, all returning students in grades 5-8 at Hacker Middle School and Mountain Home Junior High School will register Thursday.

Parent night open houses will be held shortly after school begins.

Hacker Middle School will hold its open house on Aug. 23 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

The Base Primary School will open its doors for parents of kindergarten students on Aug. 24 from 5-6 p.m. for children in the morning classes, and from 6-7 p.m. for those with children in the afternoon classes. On Aug. 25 the school will have an open house for parents of all other students there from 5-6 p.m.

East Elementary will hold its open house on Aug. 24 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

North Elementary will hold its open house Aug. 30 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and West Elementary will hold its event on Aug. 31 from 6-7 p.m.

Hacker Middle School's fees have been eliminated for this year.

If books and/or materials are lost or damaged during the year, the student is responsible and will pay for the cost of the replacement or repair.

Some classes where fees are required, which are currently listed on the school district's website, were cut when the district was forced to slash its budget this spring.

School supply lists can be found on the website (check each school), and at local retail stores where school supplies are sold.

The daily food service costs for the next school year are:

Elementary Breakfast -- Full price, $1. Secondary Breakfast -- Full price, $1.25. Reduced price, 30 cents

Elementary Lunch -- Full price, $1.85. Secondary Lunch -- Full price, $2.10. Reduced price, 40 cents.

Monthly tickets may be purchased at reduced rates and parents also may be able to qualify for the district's free and reduced-price lunch program. Contact the district or the child's school for more information.

The Mountain Home School District also requires that all students and parents or guardians sign a network use procedure agreement before the student is allowed to use a computer and the internet.

The signed agreement is kept on file and carries over from year to year for grades 5-12. If a parent or guardian wishes to make a permission change, they must contact their child's school. Agreements for grades K-4 must be signed each school year.

The district has available at its website a PowerSchool Parent Portal. Using a unique User ID and password, parents and students can access real-time information, including attendance, grades and detailed assignment descriptions, and even personal messages from the teacher. Contact your child's school for a user ID and password.

Buses are provided to students who live at least one and one-half mile from school, or for those students who need transportation as part of a specialized program. Due to high traffic in some areas, the district has authorized safety bus routes. For details, call First Student at 587-8045.

Students with a valid Idaho license may drive to the high school. Check with school officials for rules regarding that privilege and parking.

  • The High School website failed to mention that registration will be closed from 12-1 for lunch. Not cool for those that drive from the base on their lunch break to register their kids!
