City mulls potential waste water rate increase

Thursday, August 4, 2011
While the city does have money in its cash reserves, those funds remain in the bank to deal with emergencies. Last August, a leak at one of the city's 60-acre lagoons pulled more than $40,000 from that reserve account.

The potential rate hike follows a briefing involving a long-range capital improvement plan to upgrade existing sewage lines to accommodate future residential and commercial growth.

  • Silly? I would say insane. When I built my house in 2001, I was under West Side Sewer paying $11.00 a month ($33/qtr). West Side got absorbed by the City about 3 years ago (could be a bit longer) and I am now paying $41 a month, an almost 400% increase. If this is not insanity, someone please tell me what is?
