High school sports teams gear up for 2011 fall season

Fall sports programs at Mountain Home High School will get underway soon.

The following list notes opening dates for various programs.

Football

Mountain Home High School's football squad will hold its season kick-off dinner from 6:30-9:15 p.m. on Aug. 4.

The event is open to all of the high school's incoming freshman, sophomore, junior and senior players as well as their parents, according to Coach Brian Floyd.

All athletes and parents are invited to meet the coaches, boosters and "become part of the team," event organizers said in a prepared statement.

The meeting will discuss the first official day of practice on Aug. 12, beginning at 9 a.m., and what these athletes will need to be prepared.

The dinner will be held at the Idaho Wrecker Sales Shop, located a half mile past the Pilot Truck Stop on State Highway 20 north of Mountain Home. The event will include dinner for all athletes and their families as well as a guest speaker and entertainment.

The first junior varsity game of the season will be Sept. 8 at Columbia, beginning at 7 p.m.

The first varsity game of the season will be Sept. 9 at Columbia, also beginning at 7 p.m.

Homecoming will be held Sept. 23.

Volleyball

High school volleyball tryouts will be held Aug. 12-15 at the high school gym.

The first day of tryouts on Aug. 12 will run from 7-9:30 a.m. and from 2:30-5 p.m.

The next day, Saturday, Aug. 13, tryouts will be held from 2-4:30 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The final tryout session will be held Aug. 15 from 5:30-7:30 a.m.

The first games will be held Aug. 28 when Mountain Home takes on Skyview and Nampa.

Band

Band Camp, led by Jerry Tippets, will be held Aug. 1-5, beginning at 8 a.m. at Mountain Home Junior High School. Call 587-8622 for more information.

Boys soccer

The first day of practice for high school boys soccer will be held Aug. 8, beginning at 7 a.m. at Eastside Park. The first game will be held Aug. 23 at Columbia.

All home games are played at Eastside Park. For more information, contact Coach Jay Lockett at 794-7832.

Girls soccer

The first day of practice for high school girls soccer will be held Aug. 8, beginning at 7 p.m. at Eastside Park. The first game will be held Aug. 22 at Columbia. For more information, contact Coach Fisher at 407-6644.

All home games are played at Eastside Park.

Cross country

The first day of practice for cross country will be held Aug. 12, beginning at 7 a.m. at Tiger Field.

The first meet will be Aug. 20 when the Tiger harriers go to the Firrth Jamboree. For details, call Coach Doug Root at 599-4532.
