Blues Brothers to try again tonight

Friday, July 22, 2011

The annual Summer Concert Series in Carl Miller Park will continue this Friday, July 22 at 6 p.m., with a second attempt for the public to see The Blues Brothers Revue.

The group recreates the sound of the Jim Belushi/Dan Akroyd band. The original group was famously "on a mission from God," but an act of God canceled its July 7 concert when a storm went through the area that night.

Those attending the free concerts in the park are urged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Wingers Grill and Bar will be set up at each concert during the summer with the grill prepped and their giant bouncy castle ready for the kids.

The Blues Brothers Rock 'n Soul Revue (a tribute), began with Tom McMeekan and Don Cunningham in the early '90s in Souldier, an R&B band specializing in vintage Motown, Stax/Volt music. After being asked on at least two occasions if they would provide impromptu backup for two characters who sang Blues Brother tunes, Bob Kohnke and Ron Minegar, Cunningham decided that it would be more practical to actually work up a show instead of winging it. Since its inception in 1996, the band has played for tens of thousands of people at festivals, nightclubs and parties. They have also recorded a CD of all original music.

The event is sponsored by the city's Parks and Recreation Department and the Mountain Home Arts Council.

The Summer Concert Series will continue July 28 with B-3 Sides and Aug. 4 with Phantasmagoria.

The family event is made possible by local sponsorships, including: Aguirre Pest & Lawn; DeMeyer Furniture; Brenda's Travel Service; Performance Chevrolet, and Triple "B" Lawn Care.
