Hacker students forge drive record

Students from Hacker Middle School broke three goals then shattered a previous year's record during a scrap metal drive that ended April 27.

Organized by the school's team building classes, the project took in an assortment of recyclable material, including tin and aluminum cans.

Students set an initial goal of 300 pounds of metal and quickly broke that mark, said Principal Nikki Cruser as she spoke to students at a ceremony May 11 in the school gymnasium. They set a second goal of 599 pounds and surpassed that one before breaking last year's 1,238-pound tally.
