During a meeting April 27, the Western Elmore County Recreation District selected six local youth sports groups to receive thousands of dollars in grants through a program aimed at helping these types of non-profit groups.

Celebrating its second anniversary, the district's Let's Play grant program offered $15,000 in total funding this year -- up by $3,000 from last year.

"These organizations, with their combined efforts, have reached approximately 700 kids in the last year," said Beth Reed, a spokesperson with the county's recreation district.
