Letter to the Editor

Sen. Corder gets high praise for voting with constituents

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

Dear editor:

On behalf of the Mountain Home Education Association, I want to extend our collective thanks and appreciation to Sen. Corder for putting principle over party during the most recent state legislative session.

His respect for his constituents' opposition to Superintendent Luna's education reform plans, combined with his votes against the reform bills, were in direct opposition to his party leadership and the majority of his colleagues.

This showed strength of personal character seldom seen in the ranks of our political parties.

It has been said that a politician works for today, but a statesman works for the future generation. Sen. Corder's resistance to Mr. Luna's plans showed the senator's recognition of the risks and consequences the education reform bills posed for the current and future Idaho public school system and the students it serves.

His actions on the floor of the Senate embodied the core value of representative government.

Be assured, we will not forget your support for the parents, students, teachers and educational staff of Mountain Home.

Thank you, Senator Corder, for being our statesman.
