Tennis squad recovers

The Mountain Home Tiger boys and girls tennis teams both won at Jerome Friday.

Earlier in the week, the Tigers lost conference matches against Columbia and Skyview.

Wildcat Boys 6, Tigers 1

Mountain Home opened its season at Columbia on March 14 and lost to the Wildcats in both the girls' and boys' matches.

Mountain Home lost the girls match 5-2. In girls singles, Mountain Home lost all three matches, with Carolyn Bailey losing the #1 singles match 1-6, 4-6, Brittany Ryan losing the #2 match 5-7, 0-6, and Sophia Stoltmann dropping the #3 match 4-6, 0-6.

In girls doubles, Tessa Pachner and Emma Wenger battled for three sets before losing the #1 match 6-3, 5-7, 0-6. Anna Martin and Leah Riley won the #2 match by default.

Columbia won the boys singles matches, as Justin Rogow lost the #1 singles match 1-6, 3-6, Timothy Austin dropped the #2 match 0-6, 0-6, and Daniel Courtright lost the #3 match 0-6, 0-6.

In boys doubles, Mountain Home's Jalen Gibbons and Blake Pachner lost the #1 match 1-6, 0-6, while Jacob Hanson and Eric Ward dropped the #2 match 0-6, 4-6.

In mixed doubles, Jared Mott and Natalie Bush won the #1 match 6-2, 6-3. Chris Hall and Allie Draper played tough, but lost the #2 match 4-6, 5-7.

"Our biggest problem was first-match jitters and sustainability -- losing a tough set and fighting back in the next to gain the momentum and change the match around," said Mountain Home Tiger tennis coach Tamzy House. "This all comes with practice and more match experience -- being tournament tough. The team will get there."

Rainy weather moved the Skyview home opener back a day to Thursday, as Skyview won both the boys' and girls' competition.

In girls' singles, Brittany Ryan lost the #1 singles match 1-6, 3-6. Sophia Stoltmann lost the #2 match 0-6, 0-6, and Stephanie Farnsworth lost the #3 match 0-6, 1-6.

In girls doubles, Emma Wenger and Tessa Pachner lost the #1 doubles match 0-6, 1-6, and Leah Riley and Rebecca Young lost the #2 match 1-6, 0-6.

In boys singles, Justin Rogow dropped the #1 singles match 1-6, 0-6. Timothy Austin lost the #2 match 3-6, 1-6, and Daniel Courtright lost the #3 match 3-6, 2-6.

In boys doubles, Blake Pachner and Ben Cumber won the #1 doubles match 6-3, 7-6 (TB 9-7), and Richard and Jacob Hanson lost the #2 match 0-6, 2-6.

In mixed doubles, Jared Mott and Natalie Bush lost the #1 doubles match 2-6, 6-7 (TB 2-7), and Jeremy Gillies and Allie Draper lost the #2 match 1-6, 0-6.

Mountain Home's tennis team had a good day at Jerome Friday, beating the host Tigers in both girls and boys matches.

Mountain Home swept the girls singles matches.

Carolyn Bailey won the #1 singles match 7-5, 6-1. Brittany Ryan blanked her #2 opponent 6-0, 6-0, and Mountain Home won the #3 match by forfeit.

In girls doubles, Mountain Home's Anna Martin and Leah Riley won the #1 match 6-0, 6-2, and Tessa Pachner and Emma Wenger won the #2 match 6-0, 6-0.

In boys singles Drew Borgholthaus won the #1 match 6-3, 6-3. Timothy Austin won the #2 match 6-3, 6-0, and Wilson Ong lost the #3 match 1-6, 0-6.

Mountain Home split the boys doubles matches, with Ben Cumber and Richard Goldsberry losing the #1 match 0-6, 0-6, and Jacob Hanson and Ben Dearing winning the #2 match 6-4, 6-3.

Meanwhile, the Tigers swept the mixed doubles, with Blake Pachner and Allie Draper winning the #1 match 6-0, 6-0, and Jeremy Gillies and Kali Ireland winning the #2 match 6-4, 6-3.

"Both teams dominated the Jerome Tigers," Coach House said. "The dual match was a good confidence builder, especially for our newest players."

The Tigers were scheduled to play at Bishop Kelly Tuesday. They host Emmett at the base courts Thursday at 4 p.m. The junior varsity Tigers will host Emmett's JV squad at the Richard Aguirre Park tennis courts starting at 4 p.m.
