Teen excels during Elks' district event

Friday, February 4, 2011

Marcus Egusquiza of Mountain Home took first place honors in the 12- to 13-year-old boys division at the Elks District Hoop Shoot in Nampa on Saturday.

Competing with other first-place local contest winners from throughout the district, "Marcus demonstrated his normal cool demeanor," said local Hoop Shoot Chairman Larry Fincher. "He just gets up there and gets the job done."

Shooting 22 out of 25 baskets, Egusquiza, a student at Hacker Middle School, qualified to advance to state-level competition in Kellogg, Idaho, on Feb. 12.

"Congratulations and good luck to Marcus at this next level," Fincher said. He also congratulated the other five youth from Mountain Home that competed this past weekend. "They are all to be commended on doing their best," he said.
