File your income taxes online for free

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

If you want to file your income tax return for free online, check out the Idaho State Tax Commission's website at www.tax.idaho.gov. The site features software companies that offer qualifying taxpayers free electronic filing for both their federal and Idaho income tax returns. To get a list of providers and their eligibility requirements, click on the "Free income tax filing" link on the home page

Idaho has joined with the Internal Revenue Service and software developers to provide this free service to taxpayers

"If your adjusted gross income is $58,000 or less, you can file for free through our site for both the federal and state return," said Doreen Warren, revenue operations administrator for the Tax Commission. She added, "Remember, you need to go through our site to get both returns for free"

Electronic filing is a fast, easy way to file taxes. It produces virtually error-free returns because the program does the math for filers. It also allows taxpayers to get a quicker refund than if they file by paper.

Last year almost two thirds of Idahoans filed their individual income taxes online

  • For those who are not good with computers there is another option. Here in Mountain Home at the Senior Citizens Center we have the AARP tax program running from 900am to 300pm on every saturday. It is completely free and they do all the work for you including electronically file it. They are this year even taking appointments for Tuesday nights from 600pm to 900pm for those unable to get there on saturday. CHECK IT OUT!! Please remember that the Center is also taking donations for this if you would like to give back to your community for the services. The Senior Center provides AARP the place for free to help the many low income people in our town. I hope to see everyone there!!!
