Museum event will feature historic firearms

Friday, January 14, 2011
Bob Benbough shows Museum Director Nancy Marshall a Model 1858 Remington New Model Army Revolver made in 1863 and used during the American Civil War. Firearms such as that one played a significant role in the development of the American West and Elmore County. The revolver will be included in the Jan. 18 presentation at the museum on historic firearms.

The Mountain Home Historical Society will host a special event, "Firearms in the History of Elmore County," on Tuesday, Jan. 18, beginning at 7 p.m. at the museum.

The guest speaker will be Bob Benbough, a founding member of the Idaho Military Historical Society and past director of the Idaho Military History Museum at Gowen Field. Benbough will show and discuss firearms ranging from the type carried by members of the Lewis and Clark expedition, the westward expansion, the gold rush, the Civil War and throughout the period of the Indian wars.
