Cheri Castelin

Cheri LeAnn "Toots" Castelin passed away peacefully at a friend's home

Tuesday evening at the age of 49.

A graveside service was held on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry.

Cheri, the youngest daughter of Carter Jarrell Jr. and Karen Sasz, was born June 29, 1961, in Mountain Home.

Toots spent much of her youth at grandpa and grandma's place where she could be found riding horses, playing in the barn, tubing the canal or creating mischief with her sister and cousin. Toots was known for her daredevil antics and often was the first to try something brave and daring. She excelled in horse 4-H and won her share of trophies and ribbons at local rodeos.

Cheri moved to Boise, after completing high school, where she met and married Steve Ryals. While married, they had a son, Scott. Cheri was also blessed with a daughter, Rachel, whose father is Wayne Kuntz.

Cheri worked at the Holiday Inn "Snack Shack" and later at Micron while living in the Boise area. She returned to Mountain Home and began working at Washington Federal Bank. Cheri loved the bank, especially working with Kathy, Fran and Lynn, and of course the many customers she assisted.

Cheri was involved in a serious car accident that left her with a debilitating back injury. No longer able to perform her duties, she left the bank and moved to Glenns Ferry. There she met Avery Betty, her companion for the last several years.

Toots never met a stranger and certainly missed her calling as a caregiver.

She looked after her father, Carter, until his passing, and at the time of Cheri's death she was helping care for her friend Juanita.

Toots loved her family, being in the mountains, fishing, digging in the dirt, playing with her dogs and 4-wheeling in her truck.

She is survived by her son, Scott Ryals of Boise, daughter Rachel Castelin and Wade of Nampa, her sister, Terri Manduca, parents George and Karen Sasz, all of Mountain Home, and her sister, Jerrie Anderson of Arizona, her companion, Avery Betty and his extended family, all of Glenns Ferry, and Gizmo the dog.

Toots was preceded in death by her father, Carter Jarrell Jr,, sister Carrie Riggs, grandparents Mac and Pauline McMurtrey, Carter and Ruth Jarrell, and her beloved dog Bruno.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Cheri's name to the Mountain Home Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 10, Mountain Home, ID 83647.
