High school students to help local senior citizens

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

Student volunteers from Mountain Home High School will spend Saturday raking leaves at the homes of area senior citizens, part of an annual community service project by the students.

Each year, approximately 40 yards, determined by sign-up sheets at the Mountain Home Senior Center, get the clean-up efforts, although MHHS Principal Jeff Johnson noted, "there's always a need for more than we can do."

Up to 100 volunteers are expected to take part, and "the kids really enjoy doing it," Johnson said.

The students will be transported to the work sites by buses donated by First Student and use leaf bags provided by the city. They will work from approximately 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., after which they will be treated to lunch and refreshments.
