Bruneau to host cowboy Christmas boutique

Monday, November 8, 2010

The Bruneau community hosts its 10th Annual Bruneau Cowboy Christmas Gift Boutique from Nov. 20 to 21.

Held at the Bruneau Legion Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, it's one of the most highly anticipated western gift shows in southern Idaho, said organizer Becky Miller.

"This event is really a boost to the local economy," Miller said. "It allows people to find affordable gifts and to come together as a community."

The boutique attracts artists, authors, vendors and craftsmen from the local area and others from as far as central Oregon and Nevada with shoppers coming even farther to do their holiday shopping, Miller said.

"We are always astonished to see how far people come to shop," she added. "I look forward to Cowboy Christmas all year long. There is always such a huge variety of amazing gifts from talented vendors. We have some awesome returning vendors and some exciting new vendors this year."

Vendors will offer a selection of handmade, one-of-a-kind western gifts, home decor and rustic furniture, cowboy gear, hand tooled leather work and tack, quilts, western books, crafts, western apparel and accessories along with hand-crafted silver, copper and beaded jewelry.

Admission is free to the public, but organizers urge shoppers to donate non-perishable food items at the door to benefit needy families in the local area.

"We are really encouraging people to take part in the food drive this year," Miller said. "There are so many families that have been affected by economic downturn, and we want to help."

Shoppers who donate to the food drive are entered in a drawing to win prizes provided by the vendors.

On Nov. 21, doors will open at 8:30 a.m. for cowboy church services led by Wade Black and Riata Brown with vendor sales set to follow at 10 a.m.

Meanwhile, Santa Claus will pay a visit both days to greet younger cowboys and cowgirls. In addition, the cowboy cafe will serve cinnamon rolls, stew and chili, cornbread and desserts throughout the weekend.
