After winning top honors in a debut competition followed by a third-place finish during a regional event, the Mountain Home High School marching band is set to close out its list of performances this week.

With their season ending Saturday, the schedule included playing at three regional competitions, three parades and four football games.

It's an average season for the high school group, said Jerry Tippets, band director for both the high school and the junior high school.

To prepare for this limited schedule, the marching group started practicing Aug. 3 at its yearly band camp. To remain proficient, the group's initial rehearsals were followed by a pair of 2 1/2 hour sessions and another 90-minute session per week in addition to regular in-school work.

"The kids have been very busy," Tippets said.
