Vote to keep the vision alive

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Dear editor:

Be an informed voter.

Unless you are the direct witness to a process, you have no way of knowing how things transpire. It's very difficult for taxpayers because we are forced to trust and hope that those we elect will follow through with the promises they made during the campaign process.

My vote will go to Jana Borgholthaus and Marsha Sellers.

They have been loyal to what the electoral public asked for during the last election and are fighting for an actual recreation center rather than a large, empty open building.

Mayor Don Etter did the right thing by forming a leadership group to research the needs of the community. This process was effective and functioning until a few people defected away from the majority. This is the key fact that many voters remain uninformed about.

Art Nelson and Judy Mayne are both involved with the CDLC but are two of the aforementioned defectors against the recommendations of the group they "represent" and the findings of the studies.

The Western Elmore County Recreation District (WECRD) was formed with the intent on building a recreation center for the community of Mountain Home. Those involved from inception to present continue to work toward this goal.

Unlike most government entities, they have not gone out and wasted taxpayer money. A considerable amount of money still remains along with the land that was invested in and purchased.

The process and the WECRD continue to try to move forward.

Mountain Home now has the attention of the YMCA, which, as a long-established organization, would not be involved if they questioned the plausibility of our community as a successful site for an organized and beneficial recreation center.

The next step in the process to confirm this would be a feasibility study to determine what components our community's site would be able to sustain.

Vote for Jana and Marsha so Mountain Home actually has a chance of having an actual recreation center.

Vote for Judy and Al if you would like Mountain Home to have another vacant building taking up space. Please keep in mind that open buildings will not bring in membership monies but will still require maintenance and tax funds to remain "open" even if it not being utilized as promised.

By voting for Jana and Marsha, not only will you have a chance of seeing a functional, prosperous recreation center but also a chance of it becoming self-sustaining for future generations.

Either way... please just get out and vote!
